WordCamp Philippines 2010: A Success!

WordCamp is a blogging event that solely talks about everything WordPress.

It was my first time to attend the WordCamp Philippines and I must say the convention was tremendously awesome and it was really a great experience with other enthusiasts held at the De La SalleCollege of Saint Benilde in Taft Manila last October 2.

On its third year, it attended by almost 300 dedicated campers: newbies all the way up to experts and developers name it.

The breakaway talks that I’ve attended were almost in the same shelf, advanced and developer tracks. Though all classes were a bit of technical, I was able to sort things up, learned a lot, and met new acquiantances from casual users to famed bloggers.

The afternoon activity was basically a conference and bloggers meetup. We briefly listened to Mr. Danny Arao‘s talk on Blogging Ethics, Mr. Rob Angeles gave his share about Social Media and thrilled with Ms. Aileen Apolo‘s Google University presentation. I will never forget Froogle then. Also to Mr. Eric Clark Su’s overview of Piclyf, a social site and photo sharing platform.

Woot! Finally met Mr. WordPress himself and Automattic founder, Matt Mallunweg. But beyond luck we were unable to hear him speak about the “State of the Word“. Though later in the afternoon he spoke and graced questions in the camp’s plenary session.

I stalked to Matt’s blog and with no doubt, he really is, a passionate, honest, and a straightforward guy.

He even resolutely responded queries about the Hello Dolly plugin which is bundled with WordPress (it’s no use but I actually used it) and the prospect of having a movie about his life, same way as Mark Zuckerberg and The Social Network.

Teehee! Also was stunned with the WordCampPH shirt and name plate, the kit including giveaways: free hosting accounts, gift cards, cool perks and a free WiFi. Indeed, it was the best WordCamp Philippines yet and I look forward to seeing the next camp in 2011.

Congratulations to Avatar Media for organizing the event, to all the sponsors: WooThemes, Smart, Microsoft Philippines Inc., Doubledot Media, Assoc. of Information Management CSB, Flippish, Solid Hosting, Jehzlau Concepts, Neo, GandaEverSoMuch, and the Benildian volunteers. Cyberspeed!
