Samsung announces the Galaxy Round with 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED curved display

Samsung introduced its first smartphone with a curved display ― the Galaxy Round.

The Samsung Galaxy Round is made with the world's first commercialized 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED flexible screen, same size as the Galaxy Note 3. The horizontally curved smartphone runs Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), sports a 13-megapixel back camera and 2.3 GHz quad-core processor. Galaxy Round is 7.9mm thick and weighs only 154g for a comfortable hand grip and a different smartphone user experience.

The Galaxy Round not only features a sleek and thin body with a leather-and-stitch style back cover but also awesome "round integration" experiences such as the Roll Effect that allows user to check the smartphone info easily like the date, time, battery and missed calls even if the home screen is inactive, the Gravity Effect for visual interactions with the device screen also by just tilting the smartphone, and the Bounce UX integration that enables the user to control music playback.

Aside from the said round integration, the Galaxy Round also features the Side Mirror that allows users to access photo albums and video content with just a left or right tilt of the device, also the One-Hand Operation and the Multi Window feature that enables the user to place desired controls to a preferred side of the screen and run multiple applications on the device respectively.

The Samsung Galaxy Round is available in Luxury Brown (more colors will be available soon) in Korea starting on October 10, priced at 1.09 million Korean won, around $1000+ in US dollar.

  1. Is the Galaxy Round concave or convex?

  2. It's concave at the same time convex. It really depends on whether you're looking the smartphone's front or the back panel. :)
